The Wetland Bird Survey Core Counts are monthly counts of non-breeding waterbirds carried out by volunteers over the period 2004/2005 to 2008/2009. The aims of the scheme are to determine the numbers of non-breeding waterbirds in the UK, their trends and the importance of individual sites for each species.
Five character code (NB not always numeric) identifying the count site. Larger sites are subdivided into smaller sections for ease of counting, with data consolidated at a later stage (as provided in this case).
Single point approximating centroid position of count location. Work is ongoing to define count polygons for all locations.

WeBS partners: British Trust for Ornithology, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (the latter on behalf of Natural England, Scottish Natural Heritage, the Countryside Council for Wales and the Environment and Heritage Service for Northern Ireland) in association with the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.
